Welcome to the virtual tour of Burt Moeke Hardwoods sawmill. From the time the logs enter the log yard to departure on the truck as lumber we use knowledge and experience to put out a quality product. Go left to right, top to bottom and follow the logs and lumber through the mill from rough to finished product.
When logs come into the yard they are scaled. sorted and put away according to species. Any Veneer logs are sorted and piled seperately awaiting the next sale. We also sort firewood which is sold by pulp cord or is processed into standard firewood here in the yard.   The logs enter this Deck from the north end of the mill where they will be de-barked.    Logs then come through this Nicholson A6 ring debarker which prepares the log to be sawed.    Before entering the Head Saw and Linebar the logs pass through an MDI full log metal detector. When it comes to the price of saw teeth and bandsaws this is an important and neccessary piece of equipment.
Debarked and free of metal, logs come to the head saw and are processed with the help of an Inovec log scaning system. On the log you can see the laser lines from the photo eyes which are used to gather information like log length, diameter and defects.   The logs are cut into square cants depending on diameter of the log. The un-edged boards go to the Edger and the cants go onto a storage deck for the Linebar.   The Linebar saws the cants into boards and sized cants. The un-edged boards are kicked off here to the Edger, and the other boards and sized cants go straight through to the lumber inspection booth.   All boards needing to be edged or upgraded come to this Valley edger. The boards then go to the inspection booth.
Here lumber is inspected and marked for grade, and  to be trimmed for length. Boards that can be upgraded by resizing go back to the edger from here.   Here the boards are double end trimmed to length and continue on to the green chain.   The inspected finished lumber is stacked according to length and grade.    Stacked and banded lumber is stored here until it is shipped to the buyer. Usually the lumber goes out daily to prevent any staining.
