Burt Moeke Hardwoods Inc. was founded in 1990 by Burt Moeke and his son Burt Moeke II. In 1994 they partnered with Sam Fahl and Fahl Forest Products. With Sam providing the logging and trucking, and Burt providing the milling, things were set up for a wonderful friendship and business opportunity. Starting off with a used head rig and a small Baker resaw, the mill produced about 12,000 feet per day and employed a dozen or so people. Then, upgrading equipment slowly over the next few years with the addition of a couple more resaws and a better debarker, production rose slightly to 18,000 to 20,000 per day. Then in the early 2000s came the new Cleereman Head saw, the Valley Edger, a Nicholson ring debarker, and a McDonogh line bar. This new machinery and a renewed management team and crew saw production—and, more importantly, quality—rise dramatically. Today the mill produces about 40,000 feet a day on average and about 7 million feet annually, employing around twenty-five people.
